Working for Canadian Nortel
I like to work for Canadian Nortel.
- I get paid promptly. Every two weeks on Friday, the company pays me directly to my bank account.
- Short working hours. I am entitled to have two days off in a 7-day week, although sometimes I have to work on weekends. And I have 15 day-a-year vacation and 14 days Canadian statutory holidays. There is also a bereavement leave policy.
- The campus I worked at even has shower facility. It’s free to anyone who can access to the building.
- I have flexible working hours. I don’t need to punch card or report to my supervisor. I can go home almost anytime. But we use badge instead of punch card.
- Nortel is sometimes a casual place. I can address my supervisor with his/her first name. No Sir, no Mr. I have never seen one bowed in front of his/her superior.
- I was treated with respect and dignity by my superior and peers. The company has zero tolerance against physical punishment. I was given proper notice prior to any assignment.
- A great deal of Asians are hired by the white dominated management. Actually, 20% programmer and tester work force are Asians, mostly Chinese. Asians are entitled to all the rights and benefits that all the other employees have. But I see few blacks, and native American.
